Ione Betty Endahl

Ione Endahl, 84, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls surrounded by family.

She was born December 14, 1927 in Madison, SD to Reinhard and Betty (Boelter) Hannemann. Ione was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She grew up in the Oldham and Ramona area and graduated from Madison High School.

Ione married Verne Endahl of Baltic, SD on November 25, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Ramona. They lived in Sioux Falls where Ione worked for Steel Simon. While Verne was in the service, they lived a short time at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin. After Verne's discharge in October of 1952 they moved to the Thompson-Endahl Homestead near Baltic, where they lived until 2011.

She was an active member of East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic, where she taught Sunday School and held offices in the ladies aid. She also sang in a ladies quartet. Ione was a member of the Baltic American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of Norway, and Extension Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing, quilting, and various other crafts. She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and dancing.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Verne, four children; Bob (April) Endahl, Brandon; Donna (Steve) Wegman, Pierre; Vonnie (David) Bartlett, Omaha, NE; Jean (Chuck) Waltz, Cottage Grove, MN; ten grandchildren, Mark Endahl, Craig Endahl, Kelli Sinksen, Rachel Micklos, Adriane Wegman, Dan Bartlett, Chad Bartlett, Rebecca Bartlett, Kelsey Waltz, and Josh Waltz; a great grandson, Grant Endahl; and a brother, Darrell (Margaret) Hannemann, Willmar, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, September 21, 2012 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery, rural Baltic.

Memorials may be directed to the East Nidaros Building Fund.
