Albert L. Powers, 88, of Trent passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Dells Area Health Center.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Monday, September 17, 2012 at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Trent. Burial will be at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls.

Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

Albert was born June 3, 1924 near Brandon, SD to parents Lena (Sittig) and Albert Powers. He spent his early years growing up on a farm near Brandon. He received his education at Brandon Public Schools.

In December of 1946 he married Anita Carlson of Sioux Falls. They started farming in 1948 near Sioux Falls before moving to their farm near Trent, SD in 1951. They were blessed with three boys. Anita passed away December 9, 2009.

Albert served in the U.S. Army as an automotive mechanic from January of 1945 until November of 1946. He enjoyed hunting pheasants and waterfowl with family and friends and was always up for a friendly game of cards. Albert was an active member of the American Legion for over forty years and for many years was Sergeant of Arms. He was Fire Chief for the Trent Fire Department for many years. Albert also enjoyed traveling across the country to visit family and going to St. Louis for a baseball game. In fact, Albert was an umpire in Trent when the Villa Rec sponsored a girl’s softball team for many years. In later years he was an avid NASCAR fan.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Anita; brother, Russell and parents, Bert and Lena.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Barbara Powers and her husband, Dennis Jensen, Brandon; three sons, David Powers, Lawrence, KS, Thomas Powers, Trent, SD and Michael Powers and his wife, Cari Jo, Trent, SD; nine grandchildren, Marcia, Martin, Mark, Nichole, Jeremy, Travis, Tracy, Jodie and Kelly; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Powers, Boone, IA and many other relatives and friends.
