Eva Hotvet, age 91, of Sioux Falls, died on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with internment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Colton. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7:00 P.M. Monday, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Eva Lorraine was born to Oscar and Mabel (Grinde) Albertson on March 2, 1921, at the family farm near Nunda, South Dakota. She was baptized at Prairie Queen Lutheran Church. Eva was four when her mother and two young sisters died and as a result, her Aunt Clara and Uncle Alfred Thompson raised her in Colton. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church and graduated Colton High School. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Home Economics from South Dakota State College in Brookings in 1943.
On March 18, 1945, Eva married Milton I. Hotvet in Colton. They lived in Rock Rapids, Inwood, and Spencer, Iowa. Following Milton’s debilitating car accident in 1957 they moved to Sioux Falls in 1959. Eva began a career as a home economist at Sioux Valley Electric in 1965. The family lived in Madison until 1977 and in Colman until 1985. Eva and Milton then moved to Sioux Falls where Milton died July 19, 1990.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Linda Koelln, Brookings, and Kathleen (Delane) Poppe, Lennox; sons: Owen (Jan) Hotvet, Sioux Falls, and Michael (Kathy Jo) Hotvet, Wentworth; eleven grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Pearl Albertson, Madison; and numerous nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; an infant son; siblings: Melba Christensen, Irene Albertson, Ina Mae Albertson, G. Carmen Albertson, and G. Vernon Albertson; and her husband’s nine loving sisters.
