Richard “Dick” Sorken, 75 of Las Vegas formerly of Baltic died February 10, 2012 in Las Vegas.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 24, 2012 at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, Crooks.
Richard was born on February 10, 1937 to Oliver and Thelma Sorken in Pipestone, Minnesota. He graduated from Baltic High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1955 and served one and one half years in Saudi Arabia and various other US locations.
He became interested in information Technology during his senior year in high school, pursing training in the Air Force and had a lifelong career in banking information technology service in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. He retired as Vice President from The Bank of California in 2000, and built his “dream home” in the foothills of Sierra Nevada. He spent a short time in Carson City, Nevada and Oregon before relocating to Las Vegas.
Richard was an avid golfer and loved sharing the story of when he played a round of golf with Jack Nicklaus. Richard also loved traveling, having visited Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, England, Morocco, Canada, and Scotland, where he golfed at St. Andrews. Although he did not have any children of his own, he loved his many nieces and nephews, following their careers and sharing thoughts and ideas with them.
He is survived by his brother, Daryl Sorken, Las Vegas and his sister, LaVerle Sorken, Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Thelma Sorken.
