Kryn Van Kekerix

Kryn Van Kekerix, 100, of Colton passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Dells Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Faith Community Church in Colton. Burial will be in Colton Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Colton.

Kryn Van Kekerix was born June 21, 1911 to Tony and Jennie (Kamerman) Van Kekerix in Blokland, Holland. The family came to New York City from Rotterdam, Holland in 1912 aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam. They traveled to Iowa by train where they lived before settling in the rural Colton area where Kryn grew up and attended country school.

Kryn was united in marriage to Tillie Vander Woude February 23, 1938 in Sioux Falls. After their marriage Kryn worked for several farmers in the Sioux Falls area, Keeler Brass in Michigan and John Morrell and Company in Sioux Falls before farming for himself. Upon retiring from farming in 1986, they moved into Colton. Tillie moved to Terrace Manor Nursing Home in 2002 and Kryn in 2004. Tillie passed away March 6, 2008.

Kryn was a long time active member of the Colton Christian Reformed Church.

Grateful for having shared his life are two sons, Kenneth (Sandra) Van Kekerix, Witten, SD and Marvin Van Kekerix, Colton and his special friend, Judy Bosma, Sioux Falls; sister, Nellie Zacharias, Hartford; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Van Kekerix, Sioux Falls and Florence Van Kekerix, Colton; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Kryn was preceded in death by his wife Tillie; parents; brothers, Bert, Marinus and Harry and sisters, Jeanette and Cora.
