Barbara Rae Bussey

Barbara Johnson Bussey, age 59, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Garretson and Tampa, peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2012, at her home in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Church at the Gate, 6820 W 26th St, Sioux Falls, with a time to greet the family beginning at 2:30 P.M.

Barb was born on August 26, 1952, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Henry and Ardyce (Miller) Johnson. After the death of her father in 1959, she was lovingly raised by her mother, Ardyce and step-father, Lyle Stensland. Barb went to school in Garretson through 5th grade, and then moved to Tampa, Florida in 1963.

In 1970, she graduated from Leto High School with a degree in cosmetology. Barb moved back to South Dakota in 1970 and worked at RosaLee’s Salon in Garretson. Soon after, she moved back to Tampa and worked at USave Grocery Store where she met her husband, William “Red” Bussey. They married in Garretson in 1980. In 2006, Barb and Red moved back to South Dakota to be closer to family.

Barb enjoyed spending time with family and neighbors, playing cards, and attending her nieces and nephews’ activities.

She continued giving in death by being a donor.

She is survived by her husband, William “Red”; step-daughters: Janet-Marie (Bobby) Palmer, Debbie (Peter) Abood, Norma (Charlie) Newgent; 5 grandchildren: Jay Newgent, Meaghan (Jeremy) Koci, Brice Abood, Max Abood, and Nathan Palmer; 1 great-grandchild: Jacob Koci; parents, Lyle & Ardyce Stensland; sister: Linda (friend, Jim) Johnson; brothers: Gary (Carol) Johnson, Terry (Connie) Johnson, Brad (Lisa) Stensland, and Jeff (Annie) Stensland; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her father, Henry Johnson, and a brother, Ronald.
