William C. Lydic

William (Bill) Christen Lydic, 91, of Chester passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Wentworth, SD. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Chester.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with the family present at 5:00 PM and a Prayer service at 7:00 PM Friday at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

Bill was born on a farm near Egan, SD on October 9, 1920, to parents George and Hannah (Thouland) Lydic. He passed away on April 24, 2012, at Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in Dell Rapids, SD. He was baptized on August 16, 1951.

The family later moved to Sisseton, SD. Bill worked as a farmhand until entering the Army during World War II. He served in the Aleutian Islands and Japan as a Radar Technician. He was a member of the Chester American Legion for over 50 years.

Bill married Louise Granum on September 7, 1951, in Sioux Falls, SD. They farmed near Crooks and later moved to a farm near Chester, SD. When he retired from farming, they moved into Chester, later moving to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids, and then Dells Nursing and Rehab Center.

Bill had been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chester until its closing, holding several offices during that time and was currently a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Wentworth. Bill had also been a member of the Chester Senior Citizens while living in Chester.


Bill is survived by his wife Louise, children Luanna (Llyn) Shuck, Colton, Nancy (Darrel) Presuhn, Madison, Ken (Dawn) Chester, 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers George (Violet) Lydic, Denver, CO, and LeRoy (Tammy) Lydic, Sioux Falls; sisters Mary (Randy) Newcomer, Mitchell and Patricia (George) Skelton, Casa Grande, AZ, and sisters-in-law Lavonne Dafoe and Marilyn Granum, Sioux Falls, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Louanna and Dorothy.

Family was very important to him and he was very important to his family. Although he will be greatly missed, he is in a better place.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peters handicapped accessible building fund or Parkinson disease research.
