William "Bill" Alan Haagenson

Bill Haagenson, 67, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Garretson, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Dougherty House Hospice in Sioux Falls following a courageous nine month battle with ALS. Memorial services will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Palisade Lutheran Church, rural Rock County, Minnesota. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Friday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Memorials may be directed to the ALS Association.

William Alan Haagenson was born April 19, 1944, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Hobert and Erna (Rossman) Haagenson. He was baptized at Norway Lutheran Church and confirmed at Palisades Lutheran Church. He graduated from Beaver Creek High School and attended college at SDSU in Brookings.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, Joan Waagmeester, on August 2, 1963. They lived in Sioux Falls until moving to their acreage near Garretson in 1976.

Bill worked in sales for many years before starting his own commercial roofing company. In addition, Bill spent his life raising registered paint and quarter horses. The horses brought Bill and his family great joy throughout the years. He also enjoyed raising alpacas. Upon his diagnosis, Bill and Joan relocated to Sioux Falls.

Bill was especially proud of his grandchildren and took great pride in attending every activity he could.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 48 years Joan, daughters Lynette (Leland) Vlastuin of Lennox, and Erin (Tyler) Hill of Sioux Falls, son Bill (Michele) of Cheyenne, WY, and his grandchildren Jordan, Jared, Melissa, Madysen, Bailey, Nathan and Ben. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Jonason and Cindi (Dave) Biever, both of Sioux Falls, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
