Ivan Henry Johnson, 73, of rural Baltic died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at his home of natural causes.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Burial will be in the East Nidaros Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the East Nidaros Cemetery Fund.
Ivan Henry Johnson was born August 8, 1938 on the family farm near Baltic to parents Henry and Inez (Erickson) Johnson. He attended country school for a short time and graduated from Baltic High School in 1956. On October 31, 1956, he went to work at John Morrell and Company and retired in 1987. After his retirement from Morrell’s, he drove for Wheelchair Express for several years taking veterans to the Veteran’s Hospital.
Ivan married Lynette Sjoland on January 4, 1959, in Madison after which they lived near Renner until moving to the family farm in 1993. Lynette died August 23, 2006.
Ivan was a member of the East Nidaros Lutheran Church, where he served as Sexton of the East Nidaros Cemetery.
Grateful for having shard his life are his children, Debra (Brian) Karlson, Sioux Falls; Steve (Terri) Johnson, Peoria, Arizona; Brenda (Keith) Bergum, Sioux Falls; Kevin (Kimberly) Johnson, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Kari, Laura (Bryan) Parker, Cody and Bryce; two brothers, Dean Johnson, Crescent, Iowa; and Jerome Johnson, Brookings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother Odell.
