Orlando Fossum

May 23, 1914 — February 2, 2012

Orlando Fossum, 97, of Sioux Falls, formerly of the Lyons area, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Dow Rummel Village.

Visitation will be from 2-4:00 PM Sunday, February 5, 2012 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM Monday, February 6, 2012 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church. Burial will precede the Memorial Service at the West Nidaros Cemetery.

Orlando was born May 23, 1914, at Baltic, South Dakota, to parents Alfred and Anna (Thompson) Fossum. He attended Willow Creek Country School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1932. Orlando married Mary Warwick December 7, 1935, at First Lutheran Church in Colton. They farmed near Lyons until 1977, with the exception of one year at Madison in 1942. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1977. Orlando loved farming and continued for many years after moving into town. Mary died October 9, 2008.

Orlando was a lifelong member of West Nidaros Church, where he served many years as an usher, and on several boards and committees.

Grateful for having shared his life are a daughter, Sharon Garton, Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Loren (Karen Sedlezky) Fossum, Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Emily Fossum, Sioux Falls and Neil Fossum, Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Florence Woken, a brother, Lester Fossum, and a son in law, Gary Garton.

Memorials maybe directed to the Salvation Army or the Union Gospel Mission.
