Carol Jean VanHolland, 68, of Dell Rapids died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at The Reformed Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be at The Reformed Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

Carol Jean was born February 25, 1943 at Ruthton, MN to parents Pete and Alice (Berghvis) Vanden Bosch. She attended country school near Holland, MN thru the 8th grade and graduated from Edgerton High School. She then attended nursing school at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. After graduation, she worked for Sioux Valley Hospital for two years.

Carol met Arvin VanHolland at a church youth group. They married February 12, 1963 at Holland, MN. The couple moved to a farm northwest of Egan, SD where they lived until moving to Dell Rapids in 2008.

Carol worked as a health nurse for Moody County then at Terrace Manor Nursing Home for over twenty years. She collected thimbles and enjoyed shopping and rummaging. She spent countless hours gardening and was especially proud of her flower garden on the farm. Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and many friends. She was a member of The Reformed Church and always looked forward to Bible studies. She taught Sunday school and was always active in the community as a volunteer. Carol’s favorite color was blue.

Carol passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Dougherty House Hospice in Sioux Falls at the age of 68.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Arvin VanHolland, Dell Rapids; sons, Clint VanHolland, Brookings and Wade VanHolland, Dell Rapids; daughter, Tammie (Jim) Bauer, Elkton; five grandchildren, Trevor and Ashley Bauer; Dillon, Mason and Gavin VanHolland; brother, Marvin (Jeanette) Vanden Bosch, Idaho; sisters, Lorraine VanderMaten, Corson and Verna VanBockel, Pipestone; numerous nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Viola DeJongh.
