Bernard Alvin Debulten

October 15, 1936 — November 7, 2011

Bernard A. DeBulten, 75, of Sioux Falls formerly of Colton died Monday, November 7, 2011 at Covington Heights in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 7-8:00 PM Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the funeral home.

Bernard was born October 15, 1936 on the family farm near Colton to parents Henry and Gertrude (Reurink) DeBulten. He started his education in the Berdahl Country School and finished grade School at Franklin Grade High. He married Shirlene Brush in 1967. She died May 4, 1985.

Bernard worked in construction and also as a truck driver. He lived in Sioux Falls, Sioux City and in Oregon before returning to Sioux Falls, after the death by his wife. Bernard became a resident of the Helping Hands Assisted Living Center in Brandon in 2006, before moving to Covington Heights.

Bernard also served in the Air National Guard and was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles and doing crafts.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Jane Dannen, Sioux Falls; brothers, Fred (Patty)DeBulten, Sedalia, Missouri; Harold (Lorna) DeBulten, Sioux Falls; eight nieces and nephews; and a foster son, Mike Mackey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirlene and his parents.
