Earl Lawrence Farr

Earl Lawrence Farr, age 88, of Colton, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Covington Heights in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will begin at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Colton.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Friday, with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Earl was born March 27, 1923 to Laurence and Laura (Bell) Farr at Humboldt, SD. He received his education at the country school in the area. Earl worked on the farm and for the Ellis brothers before entering the service. Earl served in the US Army from 1945 to 1946. He was stationed in the Philippines during his tour.

Earl married Carrie Immeker on July 24, 1947. She passed away March 26, 1972. He then married Jeanette Reurink September 10, 1976.

Earl farmed in the Colton area until 1973. He then worked for T & R Electric for 17 years before retiring.

Earl loved his family, especially spending time with them and the grandchildren. He was active in the community, serving on the Colton Cemetery Board, American Legion, Deacon of the church and taught Sunday School for many years. He also enjoyed baseball, bowling, hunting, fishing, golf and woodworking.


Earl is survived by his wife, Jeanette Reurink Farr, Colton, four children: Nancy Coy, Sioux Falls; Lynn (Jim) Barenklau, Montrose; Mary (Craig) Clark, Ocala, FL and Larry Farr, Sioux Falls; a step-son, Brian (Linda) Reurink, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Arline Mustar, Easley, SC; a brother, Alvin (Grace) Farr, Hartford; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Farr, Colton.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carrie March 26, 1972;and two brothers, Willis and Cecil.
