Elvin A. Austin

Elvin A. Austin, 72, of Mears, Michigan, formerly of Colton, South Dakota passed away October 24, 2010. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Clock Chapel – Grand haven in Michigan.

Committal services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Minnehaha Cemetery, rural Colton. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow at First Lutheran Church in Colton.

Elvin was born in Colton, SD on January 11, 1938 to Gordon and Clara (Kock) Austin. He married the former Kathleen Praay on August 12, 1989. Elvin had been a maintance man in several businesses including Dake’s, True Value Mobile Home and Parrot Landing until retiring. He was a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and NASCAR, but foremost was always the love of his family.

Elvin is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kathleen; sons, Bryan (Kim) Austin of Spring Lake, Mark (Gayle) Austin of Fruitport; daughters, Traci Austin of Fruitport and Tamra Weathers of Spring Lake; Step-daughter, Kitty Neuberger of Kent City; 14 grandchildren, Mellissa (Ted), Travys, Ty, Trevor, Bryce, Jacob, Logan, Levi, Crue, Nash, Roan, Blair, Darnell and Adam; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cherie (Loren) Nelson, St. George, UT and Eileen (Willie) Johnston, Bemidji, MN; brother, Denny “Butch” (Linda) Austin, Colton, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rhonda Lynn in 1961 and sister, Mary Sterud in 2010.
