Brent Thomas (Tommy) Tyrrell 49, died from cancer on September 11, 2011 at Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 15, 2011, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Garretson. Memorial visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson with a Wake Service beginning at 7:00 P.M.
Brent was born September 7, 1962 in Wheaton, MN to parents Rose and Tom Tyrrell. He attended grade school in Veblen, SD; Pierre, SD; and White River, SD. He attended and graduated from High School in Garretson, SD in 1980 and from University of SD in 1988 with a Degree in Business Management.
He began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad after graduating from High School and continued until illness forced him to retire. The last two years he served as District Vice-Chairman Secretary/Treasurer of BNSF Union, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.
He married Kelli Keegan in Dec. 2005 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, the Garretson J Cās and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Union. He loved to travel and visited many islands and countries. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, collecting coins, playing softball and spending time with family and friends. He collected numerous replicas of trains, BNSF being his favorite.
Brent is survived by his wife Kelli, a grandson Alex Jensen, who he raised; Step Children ā Kyle Brouwer, (Shana & two girls); Pipestone, MN; Kyra Brouwer, Troskey, MN; and Karl Brouwer, Garretson, SD. Parents Rose & Tom Tyrrell; brothers Bruce Tyrrell, Belle Fourche, SD; Brian Tyrrell and wife Brenda, Garretson, SD; and sister Brenda Tyrrell, Garretson, SD; nieces and nephew Tara Rode (Kyle & Kylee), Newton, IA; Renee Roth (Tyler) Waukee, IA, Heather Tyrrell and Jacob Tyrrell, Garretson, SD. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Steven and his grandparents.
