Gene L. Swier

Gene L. Swier, 63 of Colton died suddenly September 6, 2011 at his farm.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, September 9, 2011 at Faith Community Church in Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at the church.

Gene was born July 28, 1948 in Sioux Falls to parents Neil and Henrietta (Burgers) Swier. After the death of his mother, at a young age he was raised by parents Neil and Helen on the family farm near Colton. He graduated from Colton High School in 1967. He then attended Dakota State for two years and served in the Army National Guard. Following his education he then returned to the family farm. He married Rhonda Dykstra December 18, 1982 in Sioux Falls. After their marriage they continued to farm until his death.

His pride and joy in life was spending time on the farm, being with his family and especially playing with his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Rhonda, Colton, sons, Jason, Colton; Jeremy and Chad, both of Brookings; three grandchildren, Conner, Makayla, and Cole; his daughters, Stacey and Mistey and their families, his mother Helen Zuiderhof, Colton brothers, Harold (Peggy) Swier and Glen (Nancy) Swier, all of Colton; a sister Lola (Lloyd) Boom, Marion, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother
