James Edward Bailey Jr. 69, of Baltic formerly of Dell Rapids died at his home Friday, July 22, 2011.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Dell Rapids. There will be no visitation.
James Bailey was born on February 7, 1942 in Huron, South Dakota to James and Beryl (Shepard) Bailey. He attended school in Letcher, South Dakota. He moved to Dell Rapids and married Carolyn Heimbuck on August 31, 1964. They lived in Dell Rapids and raised their four children.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing, going to auctions, anything with horses, driving his corvette, watching sports, especially the Vikings and Twins, Meeting new people, attending church and telling stories about his younger years.
Jim worked for Weiland Construction for 20 years before opening his own asphalt company, Bailey – Laffy Asphalt. He ran that for six years and then went to work at John Morrell and Company for thirteen years. He then went to Woods Equipment and worked there for six years.
Survivors include his children, Bryan (Melissa) Bailey, Dell Rapids; Paul Bailey, Dell Rapids; Kathy (Randy) Reiners, Baltic; Desiree (Kyle) Dammer, Sioux Falls; ex-wife Carolyn (Tom) Wickert, Baltic; eleven grandchildren, Maggie Richter, Lance Richter, Jennifer Bailey, Kirsten Bailey, Shelby Bailey, Kylee Bailey, Michael Bailey, Jakob Letsche, Lizzy Lefebvre, Paislee Dammer, Randi Reiners; one great granddaughter, Madison Bailey; and two sisters, Darla Bailey, Mitchell and Linda Bailey, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Larry and Jack, a sister, Cheryl and his grandparents.
