Helen Rosaline Meyer Van Duyn

December 31, 1915 — July 7, 2011

Helen Rosaline Meyer Van Duyn, 95, of Colton died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Dells Area Health Center. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the Faith Community Church, Colton. Visitation with the family present will be from 4-7:00 P.M. Saturday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Helen was born December 31, 1915 to parents Otto and Susie (Piebenga) Meyer in Volga. She grew up near Volga and attended Olson Country School District #76 near Volga. She worked for many families in the Volga area and Sioux Center, Iowa helping with house work and children. She married Clarence Van Duyn February 15, 1940 at the Meyer family farm near Volga. After her marriage she farmed with her husband near Humboldt and retired into Colton in 1984. She also drove school bus to Edgerton, Minnesota for many years and during the school day she worked at Bouma’s Meat Market. She also sold Avon products for many years. She moved to the Colton Assisted Living in July of 2005 and to Terrace Manor in 2006. Clarence passed away January 4, 2007.

Helen was a member of the Colton Christian Reformed Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the ladies aid. She was also an active member of the Colton Senior Citizens. She loved to sew and take care of her garden and flowers.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children and their spouses, Loren and Judith Van Duyn, Liberty, MO; Keith and Shirley Van Duyn, Bruce, SD; Ivan and Bonnie Van Duyn, Kalamazoo, MI; and Lois and Roger Van Someren, Amery, WI; thirteen grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Alvin (Ruth) Meyer, Sabetha, KS; a sister, Adeline (Wes) Kallemyn, Plato, MO; sisters in law, Dena Meyer, Volga; Katherine Meyer, Volga; and Esther Anderson, Brookings; a brother in law, Adolph Van Duyn, Ripon, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers George, William, Henry and Pete, and sisters, Gladys and Wilhelmina.
