Faye Beck

September 26, 1930 — July 5, 2011

Faye Lebert Beck, Colton, SD, passed away July 5, 2011, at her home after a three year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 80.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 10:30 am at the Colton United Methodist Church. Visitation with family present will be Friday, July 8, 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Colton.


Faye was born in Dallas, SD, on September 26, 1930, to Roy and Dema (Christiansen) Lebert. She graduated from Gregory High School in 1948, received her teaching certificate from Black Hills State Teacher’s college that summer and taught school for a year. On July 20, 1949, she married Max Beck. After Max’s graduation from veterinary medical school, they moved to Dell Rapids and then to Colton where they raised 7 children. Faye assisted Max in his practice, drove school bus for Tri-Valley Schools for 28 years and also worked as a teacher’s aide at McCrossan Boys Ranch. She served on the Colton City Council for 16 years, on various boards and committees of the United Methodist Church, and was an active 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Faye will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and trusted friend who willing gave of herself for others. She loved to sew and quilting was a favorite pastime. Many appreciated Faye’s sense of humor during conversations with her.

Those left to cherish Faye’s memory include her husband, Dr. Max Beck, Colton; 7 children: Bruce (Deborah) Beck, Belvidere, IL; Barbara Beck, Dunwoody, GA; Brian (Donna) Beck, Dallas; Dr. Brent (Tara) Beck, Cashton, WI; Blaine (JoAnn) Beck, Dell Rapids; Blair (Susan) Beck, Bondurant, IA; Beth Beck, Lauderdale, MN, 13 grandchildren, 5 siblings: Arlene (Walter) Graesser, Gregory; Marie (Edwin) Spurling, Newhall, CA; Jean (Richard) Steffen, Gregory; Kathryn (Harold) Winter, Iona; James Lebert, Aurora, CO, and sister-in-law Kay Lebert, Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, William Lebert and Louis Lebert.
