Robert L. Myers

Robert L. Myers passed away due to cancer July, 3, 2011 at the Veteran’s Hospital surrounded by family. Bob was born June 26, 1930 to Chauncey and Bertha (Schauer) Myers in Horton, Iowa. He graduated high school in Waterloo, IA. He served in the Air Force from 1950-1954. He earned several medals and received many letters of commendation from various generals. Bob started with Mather Stock Car Company in Waterloo, IA and transferred to Sioux Falls in 1955 where he managed North American Car Corporation. In his retirement years he worked at WalMart from 1997 until 2010. He married Shirley (Witt) Hillman in 1963. They raised a great family. She had four sons and they added two girls to top off the family tree. Bob spent his leisure time with family. He coached the boys’ basketball and softball teams, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with the family. He loved attending activities and concerts of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and a son, Bruce Hillman. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons: Randy (Dawn) Hillman, Sioux Falls, SD, Roger (Mona) Hillman, Lake Conroe, TX, and Ken (Serena) Hillman, Tea, SD; daughters: Barbara Myers, Doreen (Ron) Dickens, and daughter-in-law, Helen Hillman, all of Sioux Falls, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, his brother, Gerald Myers, Cedar Rapids, IA, sisters, Betty Brunscheon, Charles City, IA, LaVonne Meehan, Santee, CA, and Helen McCulley, Hudson, IA.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 5-8, with family present from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
