Terry J. Sward

Terry Sward, 69, of Dell Rapids passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011 after a year and a half battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Inurnment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Monday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.

Terry was born January 15, 1942 to Norman and Frances (Middlen) Sward in Dell Rapids. He attended St. Mary School for twelve years. He married Pat Foster November 22, 1961

Terry owned Terry’s Department Store which was at the Dells Museum site for many years. He then worked for Wyland Construction. Terry along with his son, Kelly started a tree business, selling and moving trees along with stump removal. They also had a small asphalt business. Terry retired in 2010. He was a volunteer fireman for 24 years and a member of the Modifiers Car Club. His favorite place to be was at his “lot” by the river.

Terry is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Kelly (Angie) Sward; two daughters, Nancy (Dale) Jorgensen and Amy Van Dam. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Stacy Van Ballegooyen, Hillary and Chris Sward, Garret and Adam Jorgenson, Nick, Morgan and Marcus Van Dam; sister, Carol (Bill) Foster; aunts, Patricia Nelson and Mercedes Sward; many nieces; nephews and friends.

Terry’s parents and step-father, Mike Baumberger preceded him in death.
