Ruth Avis Gill

Ruth Avis Gill, 94, of Garretson died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Ruth Avis Lerdal was born April 25, 1917 to parents John and Alma (Megard) Lerdal at Sherman, South Dakota. She attended White Willow Country School District #125 and graduated from Sherman High School. She then attended Augustana College and Sioux Falls College and received her teaching certificate. She taught Country School in Minnehaha and Moody Counties, Zahl, ND and then taught fourth grade at Garretson Public School until her retirement in 1978.

Ruth married Arnold Gill March 11, 1944 in Sherman. Arnold passed away July 12, 1972.

Ruth was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Eastern Star in Dell Rapids, and the Garretson Senior Citizens.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Jon (Carmen) Gill, Sioux Falls; Arlie (Vickie) Gill, Sioux Falls; Barry Gill, San Francisco, CA; four grandchildren, Jon, Erick, Karin, and Katelyn; five great grandchildren, Cooper, Sydney, Cali, Aaron, and Olivia; a brother, Dean (Arlene) Lerdal, Garretson; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother John.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson, SD. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8:00 PM Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Burial will be in the Rosendahl Cemetery, rural Sherman.
