Joan Isabelle Eitreim was born August 1, 1923 in DeSmet, SD to Lyman and Marcella (Fitzgerald) Plimpton. Joan grew up and was educated in Garretson. On August 27, 1940 Joan and Jacob O. Eitreim were united in marriage in Larchwood, IA. Joan worked for Splitrock Telecom for 18 years and retired on February 1, 1988.
Joan’s family and faith were the most important part of her life. And when she could gather family members around her kitchen table for a good game of cards, it always made her day. For some quiet time, she’d spend the day crocheting or watching a good soap opera.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jeannette (Jerry) Fitzgerald of Gering, NE; LeAnn Eitreim, Rapid City, SD; Alan (Diane) Eitreim, Rapid City, SD; Jerry Eitreim, Tea, SD; Mark (Vivian) Eitreim, Lennox, SD; Mary Eitreim, Bradenton, FL; Jim Eitreim. Sioux Falls, SD; Monica Effatt, Columbus, OH; her sister Marcella Brown, Jasper, MN; her brother Robert Plimpton Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Jake; brother, James Plimpton and sister, Eileen Smith; a great-grandson.
