Lois Bly

Lois Bly, age 92, of Garretson, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Palisade Manor in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Lois, the daughter of Mike & Nellie (Noonan) Bergin, was born August 11, 1918. She was raised on a farm northeast of Garretson. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Garretson High School in 1936. She attended her 65th Class Reunion in 2001. She was united in marriage to Myrle Bly on December 7, 1937. They farmed in Red Rock Township until 1948. In 1954, they moved west of Garretson to rural Edison Township. She lived on that farm until moving to Palisade Manor in 2007.

Mrs. Bly was homemaker who enjoyed her time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her outside activities including helping out on the farm and walking. However, her most pleasurable pastime was dancing with her husband. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Faith Circle.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five children: David (Cheryl) Bly of Garretson, Ronald Bly of Garretson, Mark (Pam) Bly of Houston, Texas, Mary (Rev. Ronald) Dybvig of Ventura, California, and Ruth (Jerry) Casanova of Abbotsford, British Columbia; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Myrle in 1997; parents; one brother, Russel; and two sisters, Mary & Lucille.
